Treatment

What to expect

The treatment takes place in clothes on the ground on a Japanese mat called a futon. The course of the treatment depends on your difficulties, your physical constitution and your ability to relax and feel what is happening in your body. The treatment will vary according to your current needs, it can be dynamic or deeply relaxing, I usually combine both approaches in the treatment.

Please allow 90 minutes for the treatment. The treatment consists of an initial conversation, the treatment itself (70 min) and a final short relaxation and space for questions.

What to wear

The treatment takes place in clothes. Wear something comfortable that will not restrict your movement (long trousers are necessary, sleeves can be short, everything without zippers and buttons, clean socks - barefoot treatment is not possible!). Cotton or other natural material clothing is ideal. There is a changing area in the treatment room.

How often

I recommend a minimum of 1 week and a maximum of 4 weeks between regular treatments. I have the best experience in dealing with chronic problems with treatments spaced 2 weeks apart. With regular visits, deeper change will occur after about 5 treatments. If you choose shiatsu as a means of prevention, a treatment once every 4 weeks is sufficient or a single treatment whenever you feel an imbalance.

Contraindications

  • Acute illness with fever
  • Infectious diseases
  • 2 days following vaccination

What is not an obstacle

Shiatsuis a gentle, non-invasive form of therapy and contraindications are not taking medication, ongoing menstruation, pregnancy. If you want to start shiatsu during pregnancy it is ideal to come in after the first trimester. If you have already been using shiatsu, for example to support pregnancy, it is possible to continue throughout your pregnancy.

For some conditions, the course of treatment needs to be adjusted (e.g. for local restrictions) and I will always ask you about these (these are mainly osteoporosis, post-traumatic conditions, varicose veins, prolapsed discs, high blood pressure). For cancer, the current stage of the disease, the possible risks and benefits of treatment need to be considered and individual agreement is needed (shiatsu can help especially with the effects of chemotherapy, reducing stress, exhaustion and pain).
